We are thrilled with the announcement from Department of Foreign Affairs, Ireland Minister for Overseas Development Aid and Diaspora, Colm Brophy T.D. that FoodCloud, in partnership with The Global FoodBanking Network (GFN), is one of the recipients of the first Irish Aid Enterprise Fund for International Climate Action for a pilot study of our technology-led solution to food waste in Africa.
GFN have identified four countries with existing physical food banking operations — Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia and Ghana — where there is a significant opportunity for introducing the FoodCloud model. We will undertake an analysis of these four countries in order to build knowledge of the operating environment and assess suitability. The most suitable country will be selected for a pilot.
The EFICA fund was launched earlier this year to support Irish organisations to engage in climate action with a commercial or enterprise focus in developing countries.
Speaking about the fund, Minister Brophy said:
“I am extremely proud of this fund. The private sector has a vital role to play in delivering climate action. This fund has allowed us to tap into the wealth of talent and expertise in the Irish market to support important climate action. I am delighted to be able to announce funding to four fantastic organisations to allow them to deliver much needed climate action in developing countries.”
