Forced to temporarily close his businesses, Denis O’Reilly’s experience having worked with families from disadvantaged backgrounds, combined with the loss of school meals programme during lockdown, provided a new focus for Denis and his family to provide nutritious fresh food to families through donations under a new initiative Good Grub.
From one donation of fresh fruit and veg from Begley Fresh Produce, the Good Grub team packed up enough food packs to be sent to 1000 families of DEIS schools in Dublin. This first donation demonstrated to Denis and his team that the need was much greater than anticipated. Partnering with Glanmore Foods and with the support of a GoFundMe campaign over €500,000 or 100,000 food packs have been distributed over the past 6 months in 13 counties across the country.
FoodCloud were delighted to partner with Good Grub to support the distribution of 15,000 packs of Fresh product over the summer months, which have been distributed to families in need through our three hubs in Galway, Cork and Dublin.
In September, following the appeal for donations as part of the Food For Ireland initiative, Good Grub have now committed to donating 9,000 fresh fruit and vegetable packs, which are being delivered to our Hub over the next three weeks. At a time when every donation makes a huge difference, these packs will serve to supplement the Food for Ireland donations and will be redistributed to our community group and charity partners across the country. Thank you to Denis and all the team at Goodgrub for Feeding Kindness and supporting FoodCloud to deliver Food For Ireland
