McGarry House provides supported temporary accommodation and long-term housing for up to 70 people in Limerick City. Located on Alphonsus Street, it is a low-threshold service that provides support through the lens of harm reduction and trauma-informed practice.
Our clients come from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. They range in age from 18 years to old age. In McGarry House, we have catering staff who provide nutritious, home-cooked meals seven days a week, consisting of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and supper. We also cater for specific dietary requirements when needed. Like any home, the kitchen is the heart of our home in McGarry House. Our residents are greeted with kindness and respect, and they can get delicious home-cooked meals with a kind smile, a listening ear, and a laugh.
McGarry House also runs an Out-of-Hours Service 365 days a year, on the streets of Limerick city. This service supports individuals who are experiencing rough sleeping and in need of necessities such as warm drinks, sandwiches, sleeping bags and dry clothes at times. The sandwiches, soup and other food items are prepared daily in the McGarry kitchen.
McGarry House also prepares and supplies meals to other NOVAS services in the city, McGarry House catering staff provide lunch and dinner along with requests for staple supplies such as bread, milk, ham, cheese, butter, cereal etc. Every weekend and bank holiday all residents can avail of a full Irish breakfast and a desert is provided after dinner on Sundays and bank holidays.
When we receive our FoodCloud delivery each Thursday, we provide a treat of some kind to all residents in all our services across Limerick, depending on what is available to order. All the residents really enjoy this. FoodCloud provides an opportunity for our clients to taste new foods; exotic fruits, good cuts of meat and other expensive commodities they would often have grown up without.
Novas Brother Russell's service in the city also benefits from FoodCloud. Providing long-term supported accommodation for 33 men and women with sensory, physical and mental health needs, our catering staff cook delicious, nutritious meals for the residents 7 days a week. Any specific dietary requirements are met to a high standard. Like McGarry's kitchen, being the heart of the home, the same applies to Brother Russell. Residents can come to the dining room whenever they like to have tea or coffee, a chat, a listening ear and a lot of the time just a laugh, this is their home, so there is great thought put into planning the meals.
