The Éire Nua Food Initiative has been running since the start of the Covid lockdowns in 2020. We feed the homeless and hungry at the GPO on Mondays and Wednesdays from 18.30 until the food runs out.  We also try to alleviate the food poverty in our own community by dropping some necessities to those struggling to make ends meet. This year we were worried about being able to provide water or other drinks to those at the GPO because increases in costs were putting these beyond our reach.

Since linking in with FoodCloud we have had plenty of everything to meet our needs. One of our volunteers collects from different shops - Tesco, Dunnes, Lidl and Nando’s - and we get water, soft drinks, bread, cakes, sweets and crisps for the table but also a good supply of cereals, tea, sugar, pasta, and sauces.

The foods supplied not only benefit the Éire Nua Food Initiative and those who rely on us,  but also we have been able to pass some of the extra on to other groups. It is fair to say that the food received from FoodCloud is served on the streets three or four nights a week but it also reaches much further and is shared with several communities.

Between being able to reduce the  impact on the environment through less food waste and the high number of people we have been able to help has convinced our group that FoodCloud has been a massive benefit all round, we would love to see more groups linked into this fantastic initiative
